Created by two legendary illustrators within skateboarding, Sean Cliver and Todd Bratruf, in the run up to Saint Valentineās Day, these Nike SB 'Strangelove' Dunk Low Pro Shoes have a loved up design that uses bright melon and gym red coloured crushed velvet and medium pink suede overlays. Dyed to a distinctive colour for the annual celebration, on either side of the foot gym red coloured Swoosh ticks have been cut from the same velvet with tips that wrap around the back of the ankle where a curved section sits on top with capitalised āNikeā lettering embroidered in white. The same colour velvet wraps around the ankle collar and across the underside of the padded tongue. Matching the toe vamp, side panels and sections around the outside of the ankle, noticeably lighter, soft pink suede accentuates different panels within the design and a woven āNike SB Strangeloveā label sits at the top of the tongue below a gym red piped edge.
On the outer side of the heel an embroidered skull emblem has been coloured to match the Strangelove skate store logo with protruding blue and white veins coming out of the top of the head which ties in with custom āSoul Matesā illustrations across either sockliner. Drawn in the style of vintage tattoos and surrounded by a plush velvet and synthetic lining, the left sockliner has a detailed drawing of two intertwined skeletons holding a bow surrounded by a red ribbon with the āStrangeloveā skate store logo printed centrally and fallen feathers below alongside a Nike SB logo. Continuing across the right sockliner, another illustration shows a blue skateboard hit with an arrow, also surrounded by a āSoul Mateā printed red ribbon. The flexible white rubber cupsole connects to a light pink translucent tread that contains blue and red heart shaped confetti which has been printed onto the heel and forefoot around a circular pivot point. Gym red, white and tri-coloured laces arrive with each pair so you can customise your look, each with aglets branded with the Strangelove logo.
Arriving in time for Valentineās Day, the Nike SB 'Strangelove' Dunk Low Pro Shoes pay homage to legendary artists Sean Cliver and Todd Bratruf who are known for their impact on skate deck graphics and the promotion of creativity throughout the ā90s and beyond. Having worked for Powell Peralta from the late ā80s, Sean Cliver was first involved with the design of a Nike SB Dunk High for the holiday season in 2012 and again two years later for a pair of Dunk Low Quickstrike shoes, in homage to the anniversary of his own book Disposable: A History of Skateboard Art. Describing skateboarding as his āfirst loveā Cliver has used this passion as core inspiration for the design alongside his support for artists and creatives which fuels his day to day running of Strangelove Skateboards in California.
